DJ Kismuth, DJ Diggler, and Randall Meet

Paul Oakenfold

Paul Oakenfold made an appearance at Virgin Records at 540 N. Michigan Ave. today to promote his new album "Bunkka." He performed a 30 minute set on the second floor of the store. Afterwards, he signed autographs.

The crowd of a couple hundred people.

I was not able to get many pictures of him mixing because security was confiscating cameras of people who took pictures. I was able to sneak a few.

Nick/ DJ Kismuth with Paul Oakenfold!!

Oakenfold signed my limited edition copy of his Radiohead- Streetspirit Remix. Officially the title is "Wonki vs. Radiohead- Street Spirit (a.k.a Paul Oakenfold Remix). Paul was quite amazed I had a copy of this record..... and that made my day!!

New Album!!

Trance Musik is the 2nd full length DJ Kismuth album. This album features more uplifting tunes and precision mixing on my Technics 1210's. This album contains just a few seconds under 80 entire minutes of music, which helps prove that it's loaded with music. I also did all the original photography and artwork in this album, and all my other albums. I love photography and motion pictures, and find that this type of music is very fun to express visually.

I am very proud of Trance Musik because it contains awesome tracks, both very new and classic. Avid electronic music fans will appreciate the selection of records I chose for this album, as I firmly believe that each track is truly awesome.

If you want a copy of this album to enjoy on CD, please contact me.

Judge Jules came in from the UK this Thursday for another Pure event at RedNo.5 in Chicago!!

22 November 2001

Here is Tiesto at RedNo.5 in Chicago!  His first Chicago appearance!

DJ Tiesto live in Chicago @ RedNo. 5

22 November.... I was totally surprised to see that DJ Tiesto made an appearance in Chicago. Usually he sticks to the massive venues and extremely popular clubs. It was unbelievable to see that he made an appearance at Chicago's RedNo.5 at 440 N. Halsted.

The night before I was at the congress theater attending the performance of Pete Tong and Dave Seaman. Their show was very good, they pumped out the dark, hard hitting progressive trance until 2am. It was a bit different dancing in a theater, there was plenty of room.

So back to Tiesto.... Noel Sanger was at the turntables from 1130-1am. Tiesto was visible in the DJ booth at 1245am. Noel Sanger played some really good tunes, chilled progressive deep house/trance. Tiesto started off with some old school tunes that were definitely nice to hear. He went into his more current selection with Utah Saints- Lost Vagueness. After that it was Katana- Fancy Fair, then DJ Tiesto- Flight 643.  He also played his Suburban Train, which is a really nice track.

He spun until 3:47am and then played one final record. After that, the lights went on, security yelled for us to leave, but Tiesto stood there to sign more autographs and thank his fans. It was so awesome for him to do that. Most DJs would have left and went on with their evening. Tiesto was there for at least 5minutes signing papers, flyers and shaking people's hands.

This show left an awesome impression on me. It seemed more intimate than the big rave/club style events. Although it was very crowded and hot, it was very impressive to see Tiesto up close and watch his Magik.

This is DJ Rayando's autographed flyer. It's hard to see, but its definitely there.

Here is my autographed flyer that Tiesto signed. (Note that the guy in the picture in the background is NOT Tiesto)

26 September 2001

Big Bash 2001 was highly anticipated, only because of the spectacular job that DJ Diggler, DJ Kismuth and DJ Rayando did in 2000. We delivered a good show.  Big Bash 2001 started off around 9:45 in the front lawn of the Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity house at the University of Illinois, in Champaign, Illinois. The band Krush performed for 2 and a half hours, playing original tracks and cover tunes. At around 12:15am, the crowd of around 2700 people, poured into the frat house to press on with the drinking and dancing. DJ Diggler [R. Pickens], tore it up with his new CD turntables. Diggler recently upgraded his DJ arsenal with a pair of CD players complete with sampling effects and scratch dials. He tore it up, to say the least, and kept the diverse crowd dancing early into the morning. DJ Kismuth, alongside Diggler took it to the turntables and spun his usual blend of progrssive and uplifting trance tunes. It takes a lot to get the crowd at UofI into the trance, but needless to say, anyone can dance to good music, and that is only what Kismuth delivers. Diggler and Kismuth went on to perform until 5:15am.

The next day, Saturday, September 22, the house decided to throw an AfterBash.  It was supposed to be more toned down, After Hours style. But, Diggler and Kismuth said the hell with that--- it was time to throw down again. We got ourselves together, forgot about Friday night's hang over and spun all kinds of CD's and records. The crowd was not as intense as Friday's, but it featured more serious dancers... for the people that liked hipHop, there was plenty of grinding out there.

Well I've never spun at a bachelor party, but hey, I can say that once the strippers arrive and you drink a few beers.... it's fun being behind the decks. I'd have to say around 50-60 guys were there, for Randall, who was a former TEP house member at my friend's frat house at the University of Illinois. It took place in Chicago, on Broadway. It was a nice venue, except that it was incredibly hot in there.... no air conditioning, and it was extremely hot outside. We were only able to snap off a few pics of the strippers, and you can see all the pics from the party here

Our first gig of the summer proved that old school is still alive. The usual blend of Rayando/Kismuth club music had to be scrapped in order to please this crowd of mid 20's partygoers. All went well as our massive assortment of hip-hop and rap music proved to keep the party going into the early hours of Sunday morning. The party was held on a large lot (1+ acres) in the middle of cornfields on the far west side of Naperville. The perfect spot to set up the massive sound system we rented. Four 12 inch Yamaha speakers powered by a 300 watt amp, alongside with 2 big subs powered by an 850 watt amp filled the entire field with music. The light show we provided also helped get the crowd into the mood to dance. Although the music wasn't our usual mix, we still delivered.

Fatboy Slim Live At The Aragon

Chicago, IL

On May 4, 2001 Fatboy Slim helped prove that Chicago can party!! The Aragon was bumpin extra loud for the performances of special guest Darren Emerson, and Fatboy Slim. I was extremely impressed with the caliber of music these two spun.  Nothing mainstream could be heard for the 4 hours we were there... which was very nice. With 7,000 people in attendance, the Aragon was crowded.  There was tons of room to dance, but when you went to the second level, I was blown away by the amount of people on this huge floor. The show ended 5 minutes after 1pm, which was disappointingly early. Fatboy Slim had about 90 minutes at the tables, but he utilized that short period of time well. This is where Chicago falls short of other cities.

26 February 2001

DJ Tiesto (above) spinning his hardcore trance.

My admission ticket, which surprisingly survived the entire night... a rare occasion.

The Wintergalatic 2001 event was the most intense performance I have ever attended. DJ Tiesto's set lasted from 2:30 til around 5:15am. The introduction to his performance was unbelievably spectacular. With fire, rockets, explosions, lights and lasers, I was impressed. The line up of trance DJ's was Orkidea from Finland, DJ Tiesto from the Netherlands, and finally Gene Carbonell from Atlanta. Other DJ's performed in the various "chill out rooms" located to the side of the main dance area. We arrived at around midnight, and left at around 6:30am. Unfortunately, we had to wait in line for almost 45 minutes to get our coats at the end of the night, which was a major disappointment.

The music was so smooth, powerful and uplifting, that, combined with the projector screens, lights, strobes, and lasers.  The image below depicts almost exactly what the laser at the docks looked like. It was located right above Tiesto, and was turned off all night, until Tiesto began his set at 2:30...

This is a photo of a 15watt argon/krypton laser. These tantalizing lasers can cost up to $100,000. Most are around $10,000.

15 December 2000

A new track is available for download... the DJ Kismuth "Trance Intro Mix." Featuring, in my opinion, a KICK ASS introduction with some sweet special effects, and a great intro from James Horner's "Theme from the Usual Suspects." Then, I crossfade into Armin Van Buuren's "Communication," from his live track from Club Eau. It's a cool 18min 33 sec mix I made, plus it has  a....hardcore..encore!
