Coming Soon For 1997

1997 Will see some new explosive releases!

That's right! We're creating a short 5 minute "preview" of a fictional film, Independence Day II. This preview will be noted more for its special effects than plot. Our final shot will include this exact scene pictured above. An exact replica of this school will be constructed. Construction is headed by E. Woytowych. He will also be in charge of destroying what he is creating. We will be using a complicated explosive technique that involves propane torches, and gasoline.

The preview itself stars none other than Mike Minarcik, who gladly accepted the role as the student who ditches class and discovers the alien ship above the school. As the aliens blast away the school, Minarcik barely escapes the scene in his car with a fire ball around him. It's a classic Minarcik movie!

Testing out the explosion

During the test of the explosion, we were able to capture on film the dangers of working with fire. E. Woytowych nearly had his hair incinerated by the flames of a test model. We took this photo in late August of 1996. This photo looks a lot worse than it actually was. In truth, that flame was only 10 inches long and lasted less than 3 frames, which is one tenth of a second. Computer enhancements can really be interesting. Check it out now!

Designing the model school

Construction of the model is very tedious work. One cannot simply slap some materials together and destroy it 15 minutes later. Our final model will be quite complicated. It will be approximately 30" long, and 12" tall. Since we are destroying it, there is no need to give it a third dimension, so it is flat.

First we had to study the front of WVHS. It was necessary to capture the school from many different angles. Next we downloaded our photos into a computer, and printed them out. We utilized direct proportions to make sure the school was to scale. Every window, bush and square section of the building is to scale.

The model is made of Styrofoam board and balsa wood. The back is packed with cork, nails and shredded paper. You may ask why we packed the back with this stuff. Here's why: The cork will resemble debris flying through the air. The cork will not immediately burn. Nails will resemble steel beams flying and being torn apart by the blast. Shredded paper will burn and will resemble burning fragments of the building erupting violently.

Detonation of the model is headed by E. Woytowych. His method involves to main explosions of gasoline, propane and one other explosive device. We will not discuss the exact method of how it will be done, due to safety concerns of people trying to mimic the explosion.

We will soon have photos of the construction, as well as behind the scenes production of the preview.
